BURNISHED DECAY

The shape, texture and color of Burnished Decay is inspired by Henry Moore's notorious bronze sculpture Knife Edge, which can be found at the North Carolina Museum of Art. For this challenge, I was allowed to use two surface design techniques of my choice. To stiffen my cotton-linen blend fabric and add texture and color, I painted the fabric using a metallic bronze fabric paint and applied it with a textured sponge for the body of the dress. I designed an embroidered pattern for the hemline to give a mossy, decaying look in green thread to match the sculpture. The embroidery was applied through the use of machinery.
